What if you’re not imperfect. You’re unfinished!

What If You’re Not Imperfect. You’re Unfinished!

What if instead of focusing on trying to function as a perfectionist, we changed our perspective? What if we, instead, thought of ourselves as unfinished?

Unfinished, in-the-process, becoming what you were meant to be – not quite what you were but yet not quite what you will be?

For instance, in a world where we stand and yell at our microwave to hurry up – 30 seconds is too long! But the finished product is very much different than a slowly smoked barbequed brisket,  a long-simmered spaghetti sauce, or a slow-cooked stew. It’s the long, slow process that gives it the incredible flavors.

Even the advertising focuses on how long it took to get that highly valued result. When was the last time you saw an advertisement for barbeque that said “we just briefly brought it to temperature, then served it.” It might be a great cut of meat, but until it has gone through the long cooking stage, it will not be good. It won’t be imperfect, it’s unfinished.

What if you were baking a cake but decided half-way through the cooking time – that’s enough. You pulled it out of the oven, expecting it to be perfect because it has all of the right ingredients in it! It would be unfinished. It just needs time to become what it’s becoming. It still cost the same to make while it’s baking as it does when it’s done, but the expectation is different. I expect a half-baked cake to be raw.

What if you stopped thinking of yourself as imperfect, failing, less valuable, “less than”? What if you realized that you too are “unfinished”? You have all the value, you’re just in process.

You’re not flawed and imperfect – you’re unfinished. And you’re not finished till you’re done.
