About Jan Smith Coaching & Counseling

Passionate about being a Therapist: Because sometimes Life can throw us Off-Balance!

As a therapist, my “Why” is We do because we care.

I work with Adult Individuals, primarily women. What will it be like working with me in therapy? I usually explain it this way: We will laugh, we might cry, we might get angry, we will celebrate and we will mourn; whatever the situation calls for. Because this is life – not rocket science. And hopefully, it will be more fun than rocket science. It will be work, but it will be worth it when you get to your goals. It’s your call.

My specialties: listening, looking for strengths, & helping you figure out what you want.

My life experiences & training give the best of both worlds, recent info plus perspective for overcoming and coming alongside during difficulties.

I have a long history of helping people in many forms. And have been the “go to” person all of my life for others who were hurting, looking for direction or just needing a sounding board. Some 19 years ago I finally made the move to “go pro” and get further education in counseling and coaching. I help guide you make the changes you want in your life too, by coaching you to “go pro” in living the life you want.

Along the way in life, I have had to walk through lots of experiences that were fun and lots that weren’t, which helps me to be compassionate about what you’re going through. The short list is that I have walked through over 20 years of marriage, raising children, been on both ends of caretaking for serious health issues. I have been a stay-at-home mom, a widow, a single mom, an employee and a business owner/entrepreneur. I may not know exactly how you’re feeling but I can empathize. And did I mention, I am a Really Good Listener?

I love all kinds of music, comedies and action movies/TV shows, Dr Who, Star Trek, Iron Man and Big Bang Theory. But most of all, I love helping hurting people and people trying to reach for the life they desire to build.  Let’s Thrive!

My office is in Round Rock, Texas. But really my office is your office.Or your living room, your car or walking path. With your cozy chair, favorite mug or your bff – your pup/kitty. It can even be the parking lot of your favorite restaurant/store. Anywhere you can get a strong internet and phone signal along with privacy and uninterrupted time. You can use a computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone. Access is nearly unlimited with Telehealth sessions. My hours are by appointment only: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday – 11- 5.Send me a short, discreet message (remember it’s less secure) to JanSmithCounseling@gmail.com or give me a call and leave a voicemail. Let’s see if we are a good fit to work together.  512-766-5267

My approach to helping

Feeling like “no matter what you do you can’t win?” with your partner or parent? Dealing w shame, anxiety, depression, codependency, lack of confidence & self esteem, always worried what “they” are going to think or do? Have you ever wondered if your parent or partner was a narcissist? Or “just a really selfish person?”

Wondered if things would ever get better? Or if you’d ever stop feeling so hopeless and stuck? You can’t know what you don’t know. So you can’t change or affect it. Let’s get you more information, better tools, a chance to be heard, and the opportunity to be “seen”. The chance to be whole, to feel your emotions and not cringe. The chance to learn about what you need to actually get out of the eye of the tornado in your life. The chance for hope.

More info about my practice

You know about your life and I know about working through therapy, let’s combine our skills to work out a plan for what you want. Let’s see if we’re a good fit to work together. I even offer a no charge 15 minute phone consultation if you’d like to talk before setting an appointment..

What I love about being a psychotherapist

Is the gift of being trusted with other’s stories, and the opportunity to help them continue to build their life story, the way that they want to. It is such a joy and privilege to get to walk with someone through tough times and joyous times, to hold out a hopeful vision and be a trusted listener. I promise to listen and to give you truthful feedback and encouragement if you promise to show up and do the hard work of growing.

On the fence about going to therapy?

Usually, when we’ve been thinking about it, it’s time to go. Later, you’ll probably wonder why you didn’t go sooner. Even if you are wanting couples counseling and your partner won’t go, it is helpful to go yourself. We can work together for perspective, increasing satisfaction in your life and building skills. You don’t have to wait or depend on someone else to change in order to make your own changes. Let’s face it, how bad does it have to get before we want it to get better. Otherwise, one year from now, 5 years from now, will you be in the same situation, feeling the same things, wishing you had made the move today.
